Brad Morton

Graduating with a MFA from the University of Georgia at Athens, he currently lives in Birmingham, AL teaching special studies in ceramic sculpture at the University of Alabama, and as the Artist in Residence at the Alabama State Council of the Arts and Humanities. He was part of the “Coat of Many Colors – A tapestry of Alabama artists” a documentary by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and Alabama Public Television, and has shown his work in Alabama such as the “The Fiery Furnace - Cast Metal Sculpture - Invitational Exhibition of Birmingham Art Association” in Birmingham; in New Mexico at the “Lumina of New Mexico - Group show of outdoor sculpture” in Taos; and in Georgia such as “The Columbus Museum of Art” in Columbus. He is part of many private and corporate collections including, “Sisters of Sacred Heart” at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida; “Ivy Division Memorial Sculpture” at the National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia; “John W. Kirklan, M.D.”, “Encounters”, and “The Crossing” at The University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama; “The Champion”, and “Arthroscopy” at The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in Birmingham, Alabama; and "Helix/R" at One Independence Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. His approach to sculpture has always been rooted in the idea of 'truth to the materials’, where his bronze pieces tend to be organic, natural forms, and the fabricated pieces utilize the flat planes, smooth lines, and hard edges to convey the contemporary minimalism of the man-made world.  He occasionally combines these two methods in an effort to symbolize a balance between the natural and man-made worlds.
